Australian wireless carrier Vodafone and South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung have just announced the availability of a new software update for the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 tablet PC.

Last week, the two started delivering the Android 3.2.1 update to the first version of the device, GALAXY Tab 10.1v, and they are now offering it to other users as well.

The new software is expected to provide users with a better experience on their devices, by fixing various bugs and by offering better stability.

“This is a point release and is primarily designed to improve stability, and fix bugs. You will not notice any immediate change to the way you interact with your device,” the wireless carrier notes.

The main enhancements packed inside the new firmware include:

- Additional API support for App developers. - Updates to Samsung Apps including Magshop, Reading Eggs, Excel Test Zone and Music Hub - Display Compatibility Mode for Apps not designed for Tablet resolutions - Bug fixes and stability improvements - Security fixes

Before proceeding with the update, users should make sure that their tablet PC is fully charged, and that they have performed a backup of important files on the device.

The new software will be delivered both over-the-air and through the Samsung Kies PC companion software. The owners of a GALAXY Tab 10.1 can choose either when upgrading.

As soon as the new platform version is available for their tablet PCs, owners will receive a notification. They will have the option to start the download right away, or they can choose to postpone the installation.

When downloaded on a 3G network, the update will weigh 260MB in size. Downloading the update on the carrier’s network won’t be deducted from users’ monthly allowance.

The availability of this firmware can be checked via Settings > About Device > Software Update. The tablet can also be connected to a windows PC and updated through Samsung Kies.

“The update will be released in a staged roll-out, so don’t be alarmed if your tablet doesn’t notify you of the update right away. The full roll-out should be complete after approximately one week,” the wireless carrier notes in a blog post.
