According to recently uncovered new patent, future Chromebooks might come bundling an adaptable keyboard lighting technology, which will help preserve battery life.

As PatentBolt reports, the system will reportedly allow the Chromebooks’ battery to determine what the user is doing, whether he/she is watching a movie, for example. If the keyboard isn't in use, the keyboard’s lighting will be turned off as a means to maintain optimal battery levels.

According to the patent application filed with the US Patent & Trademark Office on February 7, future Chromebooks cameras will be capable of following the user’s face and track the direction of eyesight. If the user is found to be eyeing the keyboard, the backlighting illuminating the keyboard will be maintained.

Alternatively, the light source controller will be able to sustain at least one backlight for providing illumination to a particular key, even if the user’s eyesight is directed away from the keyboard.

The Toshiba Chromebook is currently offering about 8 hours of battery life, so would you like seeing a model going beyond this threshold?
