We can't really say that the wireless charging solutions currently arriving on the market really involve absolutely no wires (after all, most of them require a charging pad connected to a power socket), but the people over at PREE Corporation (a company affiliated to GoSolarUSA) seem to have come up with a very innovative solution that will solve this issue, by charging a device's battery literally...from thin air.

The solution in question is called the PREEcharge and is a protective skin that utilizes new technology to harvest power from wireless radio-frequency (RF) signals, including those used by wireless local area networks (WLANs), CDMA transmissions, Bluetooth devices, and more.

Once collected, the PREEcharge can apply this energy to portable devices such as smartphones and tablet computers (Apple's iPad, for example) in order to increase battery life.

The secret of this very interesting charging solution from PREE is that its advanced circuit board prototype includes a new antenna configuration designed to capture and convert wireless energy more efficiently.

Furthermore, the PREEcharge also features solar cells to help supplement the power needs of mobile electronics.

“We’re tremendously pleased with the new innovations that PREE has included in their new PREEcharge prototype,” said GSLO President and CEO Tyson Rohde.

“The physics behind this technology are sound, and we’re banking on this device becoming a game-changer in the world of electronics.”

The PREE Corporation inked a profit participation agreement with GoSolarUSA earlier this year, following which GoSolarUSA funded the development of the new prototype, which will be compatible with leading tablet computers such as the iPad and the Amazon Kindle.

Initially, the entire product development was focused on configuration for use with smaller wireless devices such as Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android phones, and Research in Motion’s BlackBerry line, but has later-on been extended to tablets as well.

“Due to their high power consumption rates and large surface area, tablet computers join smartphones as an ideal match for the PREEcharge’s capabilities,” Rohde said.

Sadly, GLSO has not provided any significant information regarding the exact moment when we should expect its very innovative wireless charging solution to arrive on the market, but we certainly hope that it will be sooner, rather than later.
