During the last few years, the Pro Evolution Soccer series from publisher Konami has lived in the shadow of the FIFA franchise from EA Sports, but the development team working on this year’s installment is determined to change course with the game it is working on.

The main elements powering success for PES 2013 will be FullControl, Player ID and ProActive AI, three new systems that will innovate how simulated football is played.

FullControl will allow gamers to have more options when it comes to dealing with both attack and defense, with the Dynamic First Touch set to offer options when it comes to moving past a defender via body moves and other tricks while Manual Shooting and Passing will allow gamers to control every aspect of their goal attempts and important passes.

Konami is also developing a new dribbling system, where R2 allows gamers to switch between styles and get better 360 degree control of the ball while defensing is being reworked, with X and R2 used to slow down enemy attackers and then launch the perfect challenge for the ball.

There are also more options linked to one or two moves and to the way goalkeepers react when it comes to shots and ball distribution.

The new Player ID system will add personality to PES 2013, with new animations and new playing styles set to instantly differentiate the superstars of the football world and better graphics set to enhance their look on the pitch.

ProActive AI is the last innovation for PES 2013, with the development team taking on a number of suggestions from the player base in order to create a computer opponent that is more agile and better balanced.

Tomoyuki Tsuboi, who is the president of the Digital Entertainment division at Konami says that PES 2013 is being created “in part, by the vocal PES community” and added the team is “excited to take Pro Evolution Soccer back to its roots, which is all about freedom and control.”
