The new leading developers working on The Legend of Zelda, one of the biggest franchises for publisher Nintendo says that he is not afraid to put his own spin on the series and make some changes to the legacy of Shigeru Miyamoto.

Eiji Aonuma, who is the senior producer working on The Legend of Zelda series, told GameInformer that, “I started working on the series not at the beginning but part-way through its history. I think because of that, early on I was more looking objectively at the series and how we could change small, individual elements within it, rather than looking at how the series should evolve.”

He added, “As time has passed – particularly in the last few years – I’ve started to think a lot more about how I can take the series and really make it my own Zelda and evolve it further. As Mr. Miyamoto has allowed me to take the reins on the Zelda series, ultimately that’s what I need to do.”

One of the major changes that Aonuma is thinking of making is to introduce full voice acting to the series, which has so far kept main character Link silent.

The producer says that the idea was spurned by the success of the full orchestral score that was introduced for the first time with recent release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Aonuma says that the full voice idea is still being tested and that a full decision will be implemented for the full next game in the series.

Skyward Sword has been a success on the Wii home console and Nintendo is probably now working on a Legend of Zelda launch title for the upcoming Wii U.

No official announcement has yet been made but rumors suggest that all major internal studios are now working on games for the new platform.
