“Sherlock” is coming back for a third season on BBC One on New Year’s day and, yes, what you’re sensing right now is pure anticipation ahead of the first episode, which will finally explain how he managed to stage his death at the end of season 2.

If you’re among the fans breathlessly waiting for new footage to drop, you’re in luck because above is the first full trailer, so check it out in HD.

Useless to say, the video is packed with Sherlock’s own brand of humor (“I think I’ll surprise John, pop out of a cake or something” after a 2-year absence when he was presumed dead) and wits, and the promise of lots of action.

What the trailer doesn’t show is the exact moment in which John and Sherlock are reunited, but it does hint that it won’t be a jolly reunion for Sherlock – at least, not at first.

If you want even more new footage and, let’s be frank, if you’ve clicked on this blog post, you would not pass on this opportunity, BBC One has also released an interactive trailer, which unlocks scenes if you click on hotspots.

You will find that one embedded below.
