Fujitsu Siemens announced two multimedia and consumer centered notebooks from the Amilo product line that will make their first appearance at the IFA 2007 show. Specially designed and produced to be user friendly, the smaller AMILO Xi 2428 and the bigger and more performance oriented AMILO Xi 2528 come and look as the tools of the average computer user.

Featuring a medium sized LCD screen of 15.4 inch with BrilliantView technology for impressive color, focus and contrast, the smaller of the two new Fujitsu Siemens laptops, the Amilo Xi 2428 weights 3 kilograms and it is centered around the Intel mobile computing platform as it comes equipped with an Intel Centrino based Core 2 Duo processor which can be scaled up to the T7700 model. The graphics department is well represented by a discrete graphics processing solution based on the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS card which comes with its dedicated 256MB of video memory so no shared memory from the main system memory is necessary. Featuring an optional Intel Turbo Memory, system's random access memory can be upgraded in order to accommodate a maximum of 2GB.

While storage capabilities are not exactly the sweet spot of many mobile computing solutions, the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi 2428 notebook features a maximum of 250Gb of storage space and thanks to a Serial ATA hard disk drive, data transferring speeds are reasonable high. As the entire new Amilo family of laptops is designed with multimedia access and customer happiness in mind, the 2428 model comes with an integrated Web camera, loudspeakers and microphone as well as one HDMI, VGA and S-Video connector. The laptop's functionality can be easily expanded thanks to the three USB ports which are coupled with a higher speed IEEE 1394 FireWire port as well as one ExpressCard slot and a multi format capable card reader.

The better equipped Amilo Xi 2528 is too based on the Intel Centrino mobile computing platform and essentially it can accommodate the same kind of central processing units, up to and including a T7700. A better dedicated graphics card is provided, one based on the Nvidia NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS graphics processing unit which is backed up by 256MB of video memory, while the main system memory can be upgraded to a maximum of 2GB of DDR2 RAM with the option to include Intel's Turbo Memory technology too. Unlike the smaller Amilo 2428, the 2528 model can accommodate a RAID setup made by two hard disk drives, each one with storage capacities of up to 250GB, for data security and faster access. Instead on a medium LCD screen, a 17 inch display is provided which also implements the BrilliantView technology for impressive color, focus and contrast. General multimedia options include Web camera, loudspeakers and built in microphone as well as HDMI, VGA and S-Video output connectors. USB and FireWire ports are also provided as is one eSATA connector for easily connecting an external storage device as is one card reader and an expansion slot compliant with the ExpressCard slot.
