Fujitsu Siemens Computers is using the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors to power up all its AMD processor-based PRIMERGY server models. PRIMERGY RX330 S1, BX630 S2 and Econel 230R server models have been designed to provide best performance when Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors are used on them. For those customers who have already purchased PRYMERGY servers and are using them with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors, Fujitsu Siemens Computers introduces an easy upgrade path to the Quad-Core processors. The updating process is very simple, the processor is replaced and the system BIOS is updated, and customers will enjoy increased performance and reduced power demands.

"We designed PRIMERGY servers from the ground up to provide optimized performance and power economy when coupled with Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors," says Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Server Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Now that the processors have arrived, we are introducing an easy upgrade path allowing customers who already have the server hardware to unlock extra performance and gain system efficiency by switching to the 'Barcelona' chips."

The compute power of the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors is of 75-watts. The new CPUs boost performance comparing to the Dual-Core ones, becoming an ideal platform for system consolidation and virtualization. AMD is planning to introduce Highly Efficient (HE) versions of Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors later in the quarter. The HE versions will have a compute power (ACP) of 55 Watts and will also be available in 105-Watt ACP CPU model for the highest raw performance.

Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers powered by Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor are also capable of supporting growth in system demand in the years to come, making them ideal platforms for customers who will face such a need. The scalability of the servers comes from the increased system headroom the four core processors feature.

"The commitment from Fujitsu-Siemens further demonstrates the strength of our long-standing relationship in delivering industry-leading server platforms to enterprise customers," said Gerhard Zehethofer, Sales Vice President OEM EMEA , AMD. "Customers clearly see the benefit of AMD's unique native Quad-Core technology and Direct Connect Architecture in delivering long-term scalability, energy efficiency and sophisticated virtualization into the data center."

PRIMERGY RX330 S1 and BX630 S2 blade servers were designed to be used both as stand-alone servers or as parts of a data-center. The entry-level Econel 230R server has enough power and boosted local capacity as to be used as a stand-alone application server. The PRIMERGY ServerView Suite software comes along with all the servers in the PRIMERGY family, making them very easy to control.

PRIMERGY RX330 S1 features up to two Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors (Dual-Core processors are also supported) from the 2200 and 2300 Series up to 2.3GHz, up to 6 hot-plug SATA or SAS 3.5 inch hard disk drives, and 32Gb PC2-5300 DDR2 memory. Also, there are RAID 0, 1 and 1E included, 4 PCIe and PCI-X slots with additional Riser option, RAID 5 Zero Channel RAID Controller and second hot-plug, redundant power supply option, Hot-plug first power supply as standard, and iRMC for cost and feature optimized remote server management onboard.

Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors from the 2200 and 2300 Series up to 2.3GHz or 4 Quad-Core AMD Opteron from the 8300 Series for scalable quad socket version are supported by PRIMERGY BX630 S2. The server also features 2 / 4 hot-plug SAS 2.5 inch hard disk drives for highest throughput, 32 / 64 Gb PC2-5300 DDR2 memory for faster access, and RAID 0 and 1 which are included free of charge. Along with them, there are 1 / 2 PCIe slots, 6 / 12 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports or 2 / 4 FC ports per blade, hot-plug redundant power supplies of BX600 S3 as standard, and the iRMC for cost and feature optimized remote server management onboard.

The last server, Econel 230R S1, includes Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors from the 2200 and 2300 Series up to 1.90 GHz support, along with up to 6 ?easy change" SATA or optional hot-plug SAS / SATA hard disks, and up to 16Gb PC2-5300 DDR2 memory. Also included are RAID 0, 1 and 1E, 4 PCIe and PCI-X slots, iRMC as Server Management Controller, RAID 5 Zero Channel option, and standard power supply and "easy change" fans.
