The Japanese computer hardware manufacturer and system integrator Fujitsu announced the latest laptop in the LifeBook mobile computing family. The Fujitsu LifeBook N6460 is intended as a middle level between a laptop and a fully fledged desktop computer system or a place where the traditional high computing power of a desktop system meets the mobility of the laptop.

Apart from the rich hardware configurations available, users may select their own preferred operating systems and experience the power of the Microsoft Windows Vista (Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) that "makes finding information, staying connected, and interacting with your PC easier and more secure. Using, organizing, and sharing photos, video, TV programs, and music becomes a part of your everyday life. With Windows Vista operating system, balancing your checkbook, doing homework, watching a movie, listening to music, or playing a game is a better and more enjoyable experience", according to the Fujitsu site.

On the hardware part, Fujitsu integrated the best available technologies inside its new LifeBook laptop as they are powered by Intel's mobile dual-core processor that provides "increased capabilities in performance and power efficiency for work or play". "The Intel? Core? 2 Duo processor is Intel's second generation mobile dual-core processor and a key component of the new Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology platform. With two complete execution cores in the same processor running at the same frequency, the Intel Core Duo processor enables new levels of system responsiveness and is ideal for demanding multi-tasking environments". Users can choose their processor, according to each one's preference and the list of available CPUs is quite large: for the performance segment there is the T7300 running at 2GHz with 4MB of level 2 cache memory and a 800MHz frontside bus, while for the mainstream notebooks there is the T7100 that runs at 1.8GHz with 2MB of cache. Users not demanding high processing power can opt for a T5250 processor running at 1.5GHz, with 2MB of level 2 of cache memory and a lower 667MHz frontside bus. The chipset to back up this wide array of processors is the Intel 965PM.

One of the most important hardware parts of a mobile computing system is the display and in this department, the LifeBook offers a 40 percent more brighter screen than traditional TFT solutions do, thanks to its Crystal View technology, high standard contrast of 600:1 and very high color gamut comparable to that of a classic CRT monitor. In order to provide a video performance worthy of its display, the LifeBook employs an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 with 512 MB HyperMemory discrete graphics card. The storage configuration is also rich, users being able to pick from two SATA hard disk drives, one with a 100GB capacity and 5400rpm and one larger 200GB but slower 4200rpm drive.
