Fujitsu has just reported their 2.5-inch hard drive to deliver a maximum storage capacity of 320 GB. The MHZ2 BH line is designed for use in notebooks and compact desktop PCs, as well as for other consumer electronic devices, such as HDD camera recorders or television sets.

The MHZ2 BH has become a reference point in the nowadays storage industry, not only due to the fact that it is one of the largest 2.5-inch disks on the market, but it can also deliver amazing transfer speeds that go up to 300MB per second. The explosive distribution of high-definition multimedia content demand increased storage space on both portable and desktop systems, and Fujitsu intends to meet most of their consumers' needs through the MHZ2 BH hard disk series.

Fujitsu's new disk can be connected to the computer via a Serial ATA 3.0 Gb/s interface. Since it is designed especially for portable computer usage, the disk normally features a 1.9-watt power consumption while reading or writing data.

"The MHZ2 BH can greatly reduce power usage during idle, sleep and read/write activity by improving heat dissipation and battery life within the perpendicular magnetic recording device," said Joel Hagberg, vice president of marketing and business development at Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc.

This is the third product in Fujitsu's mobile hard drive class, among with the 250GB MHY2 BH and 160GB MHX2 BH models. MHZ2 BH is Fujitsu's response to similar products from their competitors in the storage business, such as Western Digital Corp.'s Scorpio 320GB, 2.5" SATA notebook hard drive that has been announced last month and Toshiba Corp.'s 320GB, 2.5" MK3252GSX SATA hard drive that hit the market early in the summer.

The hard disk will be on sale starting the first quarter of 2008, but the company refused to mention an estimative selling price per unit.
