It would appear that, either because they are very much concerned about lowering transportation costs or because they care a great deal about the environment, people in the United States are taking quite a liking to cars that do not burn all that much fuel.

According to a recent report issued by the country's University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, the average fuel economy of vehicles sold in the United States throughout the course of 2013 was one of 24.8 miles per gallon.

As Environmental Leader details, this represents an increase of 1 mile per gallon when compared to the fuel economy documented in 2012, and an increase of 3.9 miles per gallon when a 2008 baseline is taken into consideration.

Besides, it constitutes a record for the country, specialists argue.

The same report estimates that, in October 2013, the average monthly greenhouse gas emissions generated by the average driver in the United States were 20% lower than they were in October 2007. Specifically, the report says that said emissions stood at .80.
