Protect your hair from chlorine, sun and salt

We've been talking about the sun a lot lately, particularly about how best to achieve long-lasting protection from its harmful rays now that summer is here and we're tempted to expose rather a lot of skin by the side of the pools or (for the lucky ones among us) on the beach.

However, when we think of sun protection, we often forget that we need to extend the use of sunscreens to our hair as well - given that chlorine, sun and salt are not good news for our hair. Otherwise, if your skin radiates health and your hair is thin, coarse or lifeless, you've basically gained nothing. So, let us have a look at the most common problems our hair experiences during the summer and decide what to do about them.

The first major problem: protect the hair as a whole and keep it looking fresh and shiny all day long at the beach. Frederic Fekkai SunShine Shield can help you with this, as it contains silicone compounds which account for added shine and reflectivity. This spray prevents moisture loss and evens out rough cuticles, improving the texture of the hair and leaving it smooth and shiny. The spray is also rich in antioxidants that prevent fading, discoloration and brassiness.

Another major problem during the summer is color fading. One option to fight this would be to apply a light protective cream or gel that contains ceramides and which acts like a leave-in hair mask to protect your hair from UV rays. Frederic Fekkai Sun Bandana is a good idea, as it's specifically designed to offer long-lasting protection. Be careful to rinse your hair thoroughly once you're out of the water and reapply the protective cream.

Finally, how do we deal with dry and frizzy hair? The first step is to go for a summer haircut that has fewer layers than your winter one. Then use the Frederic Fekkai Summer Hair - Zero-Humidity Frizz Control spray to block out any frizz that may be forming throughout the day and seal the hair cuticles, making them stay sleek and shiny.
