Finding the perfect external storage solution can be difficult sometimes, especially if you are looking for a product that you can use in extreme conditions. However, a recently announced product designed by Freecom might just prove to be the perfect solution for your problems. The newly released ToughDrive Sport comes to provide users with a shock-resistant, 2.5-inch external hard drive that is said to endure even the toughest conditions. The new drive has been designed to deliver up to a maximum of 500GB of storage space, which can easily be accessed through a USB connection.

“The stylish ToughDrive Sport is perfectly designed for those with an active, high duty, outdoor lifestyle,” said Axel Lucassen, co-founder and executive senior VP of product line management and marketing. “Whether you’re a backpacker travelling around the world, using the drive to store photos of the places you visit, or a field service engineer working in stormy weather, it’s essential that your information is easily portable and effectively able to withstand any knocks and bumps.”

According to the company, the ToughDrive Sport can withstand falls of up 2 meters and is protected against extreme weather conditions. This feature is quite impressive for an external drive solution that is based on a traditional hard drive that features moving parts, vulnerable to exteriors shocks or falling accidents. The ruggedness factor of the ToughDrive Sport 500GB hard drive should protect the user's data from unforeseen accidents.

Additional features include an integrated USB cable and 256bit password protection. The drive is available in 250, 320 and 500GB capacities and measures only 155 x 91 x 21mm. Available for both PC and MAC, the drive is available for about US$219. Unfortunately, the one place you won't be able to take your Freecom ToughDrive Sport is at the seaside, as the product isn't waterproof.
