Microsoft is offering a new solution for customers, especially mid-size businesses, to measure their impact on the environment. Furthermore, the Redmond company is tying the new solution with its enterprise resource planning (ERP) products, as it is offering the Environmental Sustainability Dashboard for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. February 9, 2009, marks the general availability of the toolset designed to integrate with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 and permit data harvesting from critical business areas that permit measuring environmental impact and energy consumption.

“Businesses will find new opportunities for cost savings and improving operational performance by getting a fresh perspective on their operations,” explained Kirill Tatarinov, corporate vice president, Microsoft Business Solutions. “In many cases, midsize organizations can’t retain dedicated consultants to audit their environmental performance. By integrating groundbreaking environmental performance management capabilities with Microsoft Dynamics AX, we are bringing that critical information directly to customers as part of their everyday business management.”

Microsoft insisted that in the long run, Environmental Sustainability Dashboard for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 will help small business customers translate key indicators for the data collected on their company's carbon footprint not just into efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also into ways to cut energy consumption and the associated costs. By offering the Dashboard with its ERP solution, the software giant is allowing customers to streamline resource management by interpreting the data collected and generating new practices environmentally and economically sustainable.

“The Environmental Sustainability Dashboard for Microsoft Dynamics AX helps companies address one of the biggest challenges facing business today — the need to gather and track environmental data,” added Rob Bernard, chief environmental strategist at Microsoft. “Equipped with this information, companies will be able to make decisions that benefit both their bottom line and the environment. The dashboard not only improves business operations, but it also allows organizations to comply with the emerging regulatory environment and satisfy demands from customers and supply chain partners for greater transparency.”
