MMORPGs to have free cell phone, IM and e-mail server status alerts

A MMORPG server launched today a server status alert tool that broadcasts instant alerts to cell phones, e-mail services and instant messengers. The service will be available for the following games : World of Warcraft, Everquest, City of Heroes and City of Villans.

This new option is designed to shorten the gap between in- game and out- game communication. Most important, this service is free and can alert MMORPG players through almost any means possible of their server status.

WoW players will be able to find out from now on, in no-time at all, when their chosen realm or server comes back online after an outage or after a maintenance check.

Almost every U.S. mobile phone subscriber will be able to benefit from this new tool as every major U.S. wireless network has signed partnership contracts to provide this service. Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, Boost, Dobson, Sprint PCS, Nextel and Altel companies have all joined the service. Yahoo IM support will come very, very soon, AIM and MSN joining in the near future.

This new service is possible by the constant monitoring of the game servers. Until now, dedicated players took care of that but starting with today, they can catch their breath as Harrydragon will monitor for them. They'll just have to check their cell phone or inbox once in a while.
