Piracy dumbed down

As many of you might have already guessed, when something is being put on the Internet, that's it - it's there, and it will never disappear! How come? Well, that's an easy answer, you upload it, and before you know it, some hackers will come up with a scheme to copy it on their computers! And what's even worse is the fact that now they don't need to be security freaks gone bad or computer geeks or stuff like that to illegally download a file, they just need to have the Safari Browser installed. And you would think this affects small sites, with low security measures, but no, they can steal your file from MySpace!

As I've read on The Register, it's a simple four-step technique that will enable you to download a file that was only there to be streamed. Now, this is just for you to know, and not to actually practice it. If you steal MP3s from the Internet, you will fall under copyright laws, which are not easy on felons. So, as the site explains it, you have to start up Safari and go on MySpace, and play the desired tune. Then, select "Activity" from the window menu. This is just a standard procedure to show every connection that your browser is making. Nothing bad till now. On that list, you will see a certain link to the player. If you use Safari's "View Source" option, another window with lots of links will appear; of course, one of them is to the actual MP3. Guess what will happen if you copy-paste it into your browser! You'll get the file on your desktop, in no time! That is quite nasty for artists that had put their faith in MySpace, but the Internet has never been known for its great security, so what did you expect?

My explanation is rather vague, because I really don't want any of you breaking any laws. I did not teach you how to hack something, what I did was to show you that piracy isn't such a tough job to do, so, please, don't try this at home!
