Microsoft has made an evaluation edition of its business antivirus available for download. Microsoft Forefront Client Security Evaluation Edition has gone live yesterday May 1, 2007. Microsoft System Center Essentials 2007 Evaluation Edition can also be downloaded and will be valid for a total of 90 days. Forefront Client Security weighs in at a maximum of 153.4 MB while the System Center Essentials 2007 is a 610.9 MB download, so you would do better to plan ahead.

"Microsoft Forefront Client Security provides unified malware protection for business desktops, laptops, and server operating systems that is easy to manage and control. Forefront Client Security helps guard against emerging threats, such as spyware and rootkits, as well as against traditional threats, such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses," revealed the Redmond Company in the product's description.

Forefront Client Security is supported on Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (32-Bit x86); Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (32-bit x86); Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, and Microsoft informs that users will need 4 GB of RAM if they want the product to run smoothly. In fact, Forefront Client Security will not run at all with less than 1 GB of RAM. But these technical requirements are for server topologies.

Forefront Client Security will run with just 256 MB of Ram on Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003. Users can additionally integrate the business antivirus with Windows Vista, but only with the Business, Enterprise and Ultimate editions.

Together with Forefront Client Security, Microsoft is also delivering the System Center Essentials 2007 Evaluation Edition, designed as a unified management solution. System Center Essentials 2007 brings to the table proactive monitoring, troubleshooting and asset tracking and centralized management.

Microsoft Forefront Client Security Evaluation Edition was tested by Softpedia as being 100% Clean and is available for download here.
