Those who have purchase an iPhone 4 before September 30, 2010 are eligible to receive an iPhone 4 Bumper or a select third-party case from Apple at no charge, the company states on a newly-posted web page dedicated to the “iPhone 4 Case Program.” Apple also released an iOS app bearing the same name. The software, downloadable from the iTunes App Store for free, allows customers to apply for their free case.

Applicants must follow these steps to get their free Bumper or case, Apple said:

1. Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store. 2. Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID. 3. Select your Bumper or case.

For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.

Apple promises to give customers a full refund for their previously purchased iPhone 4 Bumper, including any taxes and shipping fees. As for those who wish to renounce their device for good, they can return it undamaged to any Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store within 30 days of their purchase for a full refund. Those who brought their business to AT&T can do the same, Apple said.

Only iPhone 4 owners are eligible for this program, as the iPhone 4 Case Program app will check the IMEI and serial number to verify that owners indeed have an iPhone 4. Once eligibility is confirmed, customers will be able to choose an iPhone 4 Bumper or other case and have it shipped to them at no charge. Although a free case can be secured by anyone as soon as today, shipping takes a while longer, according to Apple.
