Foxconn just announced the launch of an Intel compatible mainboard, the X38A, which is based on the high performance Intel X38 desktop chipset. This new Foxconn mainboard is part of the ''Digital Life'' series of products that come as solutions aimed at the average computer user.

As it is built around the desktop Intel X38 chipset, the Foxconn X38A mainboard is equipped with a LGA 775 socket and so it is compatible with a wide range of Intel-made central processing units that are using frontside bus frequencies between 800 and 1333MHz. Even if Intel designed the X38 chipset as a solution only for mainboards equipped with DDR3 random access memory slots, most mainboard manufacturing companies are taking a different road offering separate DDR2 and DDR3 compatible products as well as combo units that work with both DDR2 and DDR3 memories.

The Foxconn X38A mainboard comes equipped with two DDR3 compatible memory slots, so a maximum amount of 4GB of DDR3 memory can be installed as well as four DDR2 slots so users may install as much as 8GB of DDR2 memory. When DDR2 memory modules are used the maximum operating frequency is 1066MHz, while using the faster DDR3 compatible memories up the speed to 1333MHz.

Like most X38 based mainboards, the X38A comes with three PCI Express x16 slots that are compatible with CrossFire solutions from AMD, while add-on expansion cards can be fitted in two PCI Express x1 slots as well as two legacy PCI slots. On the connectivity side, the latest Foxconn mainboard comes with 8 high speed USB 2.0 ports as well as two FireWire, two Gigabit level Ethernet ports and 2 external Serial ATA connectors. Optical and hard disk drives can be connected to this new mainboard using the six integrated Serial ATA II ports as well as the single IDE compatible connector.

The Foxconn X38A mainboard is part of the ''Digital Life'' series of products and it comes with a Dual Digital Audio that provides a high quality audio experience as well as with the Foxconn Digital Connector that can be used to further expand the functionality of this product.
