The latest update to the Foursquare iPhone app added a couple of new features comments and photos. And, as we've seen time and time again, people just seem to love photos as Foursquare is seeing one photo upload every second or so and may have gotten 25,000 uploads by now.

"We’ve been promising this all year and really hustled to get it out for the holidays. So, without further ado, our holiday gift to you: foursquare just became more useful and social with the addition of photos and comments," Foursquare announced.

Photos was Facebook's killer feature when it was first introduced. Though, as a photo sharing service, Facebook was awful, by the site's own admission, it had one great feature, it was social.

Users put up with the buggy software, small photos and very poor management features simply because they could tag their friends in the photos.

Now, Facebook is the biggest photo hosting service on the web by such a large margin that it's not even a competition anymore. At the same time, photo apps, like the huge popular Instagram, have become very successful in a short amount of time despite only offering a few simple ways of modifying and sharing your photos.

Foursquare is hoping to do the same with its own apps. Photos for the check-in service make a lot of sense, you can now add a pic to your tips making them a lot more useful for everyone else.

Of course, you can add photos to simple check-ins as well. And Foursquare has partnered with several services to integrate the photo feature. Instagram pics sent to Foursquare will be check-ins with photos, for example, and it goes on.

Only iPhone users are able to upload photos for now, but an Android app update is coming this week. The WebOS and BlackBerry apps will be updated in January.
