Fotoxx, a free, open source Linux photo editing and collection management program that’s easy to use and install, has just reached version 14.04.

Fotoxx provides a hassle-free solution to simple photo editing and library management. A new major version has been released, featuring some important changes.

Surprisingly, the Linux platform doesn't have a lot of powerful image editors. There are some simpler solutions, with few options, but complete applications with tons of features are missing. A couple of them do rise to the challenge, but they are not free.

Fotoxx 14.04 comes with a huge range of options and the application is capable of satisfying even the most exigent requests from the users.

“Import RAW files and edit with deep color. Save revised images as JPEG, BMP, PNG (8/16 bits), or TIFF (8/16). Select an object or area within an image (freehand outline, follow edges, select matching tones, ... ), apply edit functions, copy and paste, resize, blend, warp, etc. without using layers.”

“Fotoxx uses your image files wherever they are and maintains a separate index for fast searching. Fotoxx is standards compliant and can be used with other photo edit programs (no lock-in). Fotoxx is easy to use but unconventional, so please read the user manual (at least a few pages) before jumping in,” reads the official website.

According to the changelog, a number of important updates and changes have been implemented. For example, the classic top menu has been replaced with a vertical menu on the left side, the capability of the software to adjust individual colors has been improved, the brightness distribution graph is now in the same place as the curve edit window, and a new control options is now available for users to adjust the sensitivity of the edit curves.

Also, an additional slow scroll mode for scanning images visually inside the gallery has been added, users can now specify transitions and dwell times for each image whenever they want, it's not possible to specify the zoom-in per image (speed, target center, magnification), the Leverage Edits function has been reintroduced, users can now make sharper bends and closer anchor points are allowed once more, the GUI for the Background Pattern is now easier to use and the pattern is now resizable, and a memory leak in Retouch > Brightness Distribution has been fixed.

A complete list of changes and updates can be found in the official announcement. Download Fotoxx 14.04 right now from Softpedia.
