The game doesn't need to transfer online data when it's being installed

Forza Motorsport 5 developer Turn 10 Studios confirmed that the mandatory download it detailed last week isn't actually required to play the game offline at the beginning, as it only serves to bring new content and fresh Drivatar AI data into the racing title.

Forza Motorsport 5 is one of the different Xbox One games that will take advantage of the console's cloud system that will see data shift seamlessly from the Internet to the game.

Turn 10 revealed last week that, while the game is playable offline, it will require a one-time download to get fresh content developed after the game was sent to certification and different Drivatar AI behavior.

According to Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt, that statement was misinterpreted, as players can experience the game without going online from the get-go.

"In the beginning of the game, the player will be racing against Drivatars that are contained on the disc and were trained by the [Turn 10 development] team," Greenawalt told IGN.

"While playing, the player will be asked to connect to Live in order to download a completely fresh set of player-created Drivatar opponents – it’s not a lot of data, but the download contains enough Drivatars to cover all difficulty settings."

"Connecting will also download new content – but the vast majority of the launch content is contained on the disc. This download is simply additional cars and tracks. The gameplay is not blocked while downloading the additional content; it’s done in the background just like disc install."

Greenawalt added that the DLC will bring things, like cars and tracks, that can be utilized by deeper areas of the career mode, so players should make the transfer sooner or later.

"You’ll be able to play Forza Motorsport 5 in Career mode, Free Play, and other offline modes. Like Xbox 360 cloud saves, the next time you connect, your save game progress will automatically synch with Xbox Live," the developer said.

Forza Motorsport 5 is out in November alongside the Xbox One.
