It should work with processors from both Intel and AMD

Even though Advanced Micro Devices and Intel have different processor designs and chipsets, it ultimately falls to cooler makers to ensure compatibility between their products and the chips.

That's why universal coolers always score more points with those who know how to put together their own personal computer.

As it happens, SilentiumPC has just launched a universal cooler, called Fortis 2 XE1226. There should be lots of different mounting screws and parts in the box.

It's not just any cooler either, or so SilentiumPC claims. The company intended for it to be used in high-end computers, even overclocked ones.

So it built it with a copper base, six 6mm U-shaped copper heatpipes, a DF12025 120 mm PWM (max noise of 22 dBA at full load, like a whisper that you won't hear at all if your case is closed up properly) and the Pactum PT-1 thermal compound.

There is an extra pair of mounting clips too, allowing you to install two fans on the thing instead of one.

So if you have a PC with a case no less than 185 mm wide (7.28 inches), you may as well check this thing out. Just make sure your local retailer isn't cheating you out of your money. The price of the SilentiumPC Fortis XE1226 CPU Cooler should be of around $33 / €30.
