Staff changes and hirings are pretty much the dullest things you can hear about when going through the news, unless there are certain circumstances that demand you sit up and take notes.

Specifically, when news about executive changes starts to make waves for the first time in a young industry segment, you can take it to mean that the market has taken a life of its own.

It's like attending a sort of coming of age ceremony, if you're being sentimental.

So which company managed to turn heads just by hiring someone? Southern California-based 3D printer manufacturer Airwolf 3D.

Although it's not the company, or even the fact that it happened, that caused the reaction. Instead, it's who got hired that's important.

None other than Mark Mathews has signed on as company president and overseer of the company sales, operations, marketing and finance.

Only Wolf himself, the founder of the 2-year-old company, will be above him and receive reports.

Considering that Mathews is the former president and CEO of Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc., he could make the company big.

After all, he oversaw 3000+ employees and a budget of $750 million / €550 million, so he definitely is used operating according to a big vision.
