Chances are that you still remember the Russian girl duo which was racing through Western charts at the beginning of the ‘00s with their hit song “All the Things She Said.” The two girls were marketed like a lesbian couple, often kissing one another in videos or during live performances.

Today, years after the band fell into oblivion, one of the former members, Yulia Volkova, reveals in a televised interview that she actually hates gays. To be more specific, Yulia only hates gay men, considering that lesbians are somehow acceptable.

Yulia Volkova hates gay men, would not accept her own son being gay

To give you a point of reference, Yulia was the brunette girl in the duo and you can't be blamed for not recognizing her anymore since she seems to have had extensive work done to her face. With a short dark bob and full pouty lips, Yulia appears on a Russian TV channel to say that she would not accept her son if he turned out gay.

The news was picked up by Russian media and is said to have already caused uproar in gay circles and not just in Russia, but across Europe, seeing as how her former band was viewed as a bastion for gay rights.

When asked if she would condemn a gay son or accept him, Yulia unequivocally chose the first option, “Yes, I would condemn him, because I believe that a real man must be a real man. God created man for procreation, it is nature. Man for me is the support, the strength of … I won't accept a gay son.”

She also added that lesbians were OK, but gay men were like criminals

It was then brought to her attention that she started out her public life as a seemingly lesbian singer. To this, Yulia replied “Two girls together - not the same thing as the two men together. It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing.”

As you can imagine, this sent shockwaves in Russian media. Sensing that she might have gone a bit overboard and that she might be labeled a bigot, Yulia took the time to make things clear, “But! I want to say that I'm not against gays, I just want my son to be a real man, not a fag.”

She failed to notice that her use of the word “fag” just rendered her argument invalid. But wait, that's not all, since Yulia was clearly bent on giving you a piece of her mind. Not noticing that she completely destroyed her public image with her vitriolic view on gay men, she gave the lamest argument possible, usually given by people who are homophobes but don't want to appear it.

“I have many gay friends,” Yulia confessed, hoping to win back some of the favor she had lost, but she wasn't fooling anyone anymore. She went to conclude that being gay is actually a loathsome condition, akin to a criminal.

“I believe that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay a little better than the rest,” Yulia candidly told her interviewer.
