Back in March, we learned that 27-year-old Bernard Beliard, a State Corrections officer of the South Florida Reception Center was arrested and charged with access device fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Prosecutors alleged that Beliard used his official law enforcement position to gain access to personal information that could be used to file fraudulent tax returns. He was apprehended after trying to sell the data to an FBI source.

He provided the FBI source with the details of around 805 inmates, including their social security numbers and dates of birth.

The information was sold for $9,600 (€7,300) in cash.

According to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Florida, Beliard has pleaded guilty to both the access device fraud and aggravated identity theft charges. He will be sentenced on July 16, 2013.
