December has marked a critical step forward for Microsoft’s Business Ready Security strategy with the release of such solutions as Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 (TMG) and Forefront Unified Access Gateway 2010 (UAG). However, the company continued to make available additional resources after the RTM of TMG 2010 and UAG 2010, including the Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 Tools & Software Development Kit (SDK). On December 29th, 2009, the technical documentation for Forefront TMG 2010 went live on Microsoft’s portal for IT professionals, TechNet.

“Forefront TMG 2010 TechNet documentation is now live with Forefront TMG Release to Web content. This release of the documentation culminates a customer- and solutions-focused effort undertaken by the Forefront TMG User Assistance team since the release of ISA Server 2006, resulting in a new content structure, new content, and the streamlining of previously-available content,” revealed Rachel Aldam, TMG 2010 technical writer.

In this context, users are not only able to download and stat test driving TMG 2010, but also access the necessary information on the new additions brought to the table by the evolution of the gateway security product. Microsoft notes that the documentation brings details on all the new features added to TMG 2010 such as: web anti-malware, URL filtering, e-mail protection, HTTPS inspection, Network Inspection System (NIS), eEnhanced Network Address Translation (NAT), enhanced Voice over IP support, and Windows Server 2008 with 64-bit support.

“The new content structure focuses on Forefront TMG’s core value to your business: protecting IT environments from Internet-based threats, while providing both internal and remote users fast and secure access to the Internet and to internal applications and data. The Planning and Design, Deployment, and Operations guides are synched to guide the Forefront TMG administrator through system deployment in various topologies, enabling access through Forefront TMG, and setting up the protection of organizational resources from Internet-based threats,” Aldam added.
