The latest update to Forefront Online Protection for Exchange Service introduces enhancements tailored to hybrid email environments, according to Julia White

, Senior Director, Exchange Product Management.

Customers embracing the Microsoft Cloud can opt for a smooth transition, rather than a rip and replace leap, and the software giant’s latest update to FOPE is designed to reflect this.

FOPE 11.1 deals with email protection across both Exchange Online and on-premise Exchange Server, offering access and identity management in addition to security.

All of the new features introduced in version 11.1 of the Forefront Online Protection for Exchange Service will immediately become available to all existing FOPE customers.

White enumerated some enhancements, including:

“- Manage your hybrid environments: FOPE 11.1, provides additional e-mail routing flexibility for hybrid scenarios between Exchange Online and on-premises Exchange Server mailboxes.

- Reduce False Positives: You can now set up a trusted mail flow channel with business partners via Skiplisting - a capability that helps reduce False Positives.

- Secure your business channel: Multiple new Transport layer security (TLS) options ensure emails always pass via a secure communication channel.

- Make it easier for partners to manage your security service: FOPE 11.1 allows your IT Partner to manage and administer FOPE for your organization with the new delegated administration experience. Partners are now also provided a consolidated view of all the companies they manage.”

Microsoft has even provided a “New Features in FOPE 11.1” video which is available via this link, and that is bound to deliver additional insight into the update.

At the same time, customers new to FOPE can take the service out for a spin extremely simple. They just need to head over to the Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange Trial Activation request site and follow the instructions presented to them.

Of course, they’ll get to test FOPE’s email routing, advanced Transport Layer Security options and spam filtering functionality on Exchange Server and Exchange Online.

According to the software giant, customers planning to move to Microsoft’s Office 365 Cloud productivity suite once it’s released to web later this year, will be able to rely on Forefront Online Protection for Exchange for the security of their email communications.
