Microsoft makes no secret that it’s dogfooding (eating one’s own dog food, using internally) products since the earliest stages of development, but the company continues to leverage the software even after RTM, and Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 makes no exception to this rule. According to a new whitepaper published by the software giant, Microsoft IT opted for the recently RTM’s Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 as a way to streamline and boost endpoint protection.

The case study put together by Microsoft is available for download free of charge via the company’s Download Center, allowing customers to get insight into Microsoft IT’s deployment of FEP 2010.

“Because Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 builds on Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 and R3, Microsoft IT was able to use its existing infrastructure to implement a centralized AntiMalware management and reporting solution that provides a holistic view of more than 100,000 clients' malware status and reduces the number of systems running outdated malware definitions.

“Using Forefront Endpoint Protection, Microsoft IT improved their SLA for antimalware policy deployment from more than a day to four hours,” the company explained.

It’s by no means the first time that Microsoft IT has adopted an early release of a Microsoft product, just as it’s not the first time a case study was shared with the public.

Fact is that Microsoft IT deployed FEP 2010 when the endpoint security solution was still in Beta, then also upgraded to the Release Candidate.

Following the RTM Microsoft made available for download a free evaluation edition of Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 which customers can download and test drive.

“Microsoft IT saw Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 as the foundation of a new antimalware monitoring and reporting solution.

“With Forefront Endpoint Protection, Microsoft IT administrators would be able to roll out a large-scale endpoint protection solution to all managed user desktop and portable computers.

“The product comes with recommended policies and deployment packaging that is ready to use, taking the guesswork out of security management,” the company added.
