Haruo Ogawa, president of the Olympus Imaging Corporation, announced today that the new celebrity spokesperson for their OM-D interchangeable-lens camera is international football star Keisuke Honda.

The company decided that the leading member of Japan's national football team and a core player for CSKA Moscow, is the ideal candidate to promote the Olympus OM-D image and encourage people to “move into a new world” of mirrorless OM-D system cameras.

With the help of their new celebrity spokesperson, Olympus aims to promote the OM-D brand to camera lovers worldwide and since Japan national football team will be attending the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, this will be the perfect occasion to showcase their highly-regarded mirrorless camera models over the ocean.

Following this announcement, Keisuke Honda said that “I am amazed that OM-D cameras are so robust and yet so compact and light. I am delighted to accept Olympus' offer, having been interested in cameras for a long time. It is an honor to be told that my image as a football player matches the OM-D image.”

“People are always taking my photo, but now I want to be the one using the camera. Even though I have visited dozens of countries playing football, I do not have many tangible memories, so I am excited to use my OM-D series camera to take professional-quality photos of places I visit, and my family!” he then added.

The first OM-D series Olympus camera, the E-M5, was introduced back in March 2012 and was followed more than a year later (October 2013) by the award-winning OM-D E-M1, which became Olympus' flagship mirrorless camera model offering an impressive picture quality comparable with conventional DSLR cameras.

In a recent interview, Yukihiko Sugita of the Olympus Imaging Development Division announced that the Nippon giant will focus on premium mirrorless models as well as new MFT lenses for next year's strategy.
