Back in February 2013, we learned that the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and mobile device manufacturer HTC America came to an agreement regarding the security of the products shipped by the company.

Now, after a public comment period, the FTC has approved a final order settling the charges against HTC.

According to the settlement, HTC will develop and release patches for the security holes that plague their devices, and they will establish a comprehensive program to ensure that security risks are addressed during the development phase.

In addition, HTC has agreed to undergo independent security assessments every other year for the next 20 years.

The mobile device manufacturer is banned from making false or misleading statements regarding the security and privacy of its customers’ data.

Any violations of the settlement might result in civil penalties.
