Because we all have to celebrate the Year of the Horse somehow

This year is the year of the horse according to the Chinese zodiac, so you can expect lots of equine-theme gadgets and other products over the next few months, like the flash drive that Kingston has just revealed.

This is one instance where Kingston did not go too far out of its way to make the small storage product as thin as possible.

It couldn't, not when it had to build a toy horse into it. So as odd as it might make it all seem, Kingston shaped the Flying Horse Limited Edition USB Flash drive like a glass bottle.

Or at least a cylinder with a transparent section holding the red critter safely ensconced.

The drive measures 43.7 x 32 x 41.4 mm / 1.72 x 1.25 x 1.62 inches and communicates with PCs over USB 2.0 technology.

It means that the top data transfer speed will never go above 480 Mbps, so it's actually a good thing the capacity is of just 16 GB.

32 GB or more and it would have taken too long for the thing to fill up, although, admittedly, people aren't about to start copying stuff on it just for its own sake.

The Kingston Flying Horse Limited Edition flash drive will become part of the DataTraveler Chinese Zodiac USB line. Sadly, its price and exact time of availability have not been provided.

"Our DataTraveler Chinese Zodiac USB drive lineup has been praised by collectors worldwide," said Nathan Su, flash memory sales director, APAC Region, Kingston.

"As the Year of the Horse approaches, Kingston is proud to present Flying Horse Limited Edition USB drive that comes with a vivid red color and robust design. It is sold in a firecracker package, aiming to fire up people's spirit throughout the year. This exclusive limited edition USB drive also represents our good wish of a flying success in the coming year."
