A dozen sub $1,000 Macs have been added to Apple’s Special Deals area, six of which are old-generation Mac minis that just found a temporary home in the listings at store.apple.com.

Starting at $429 and going all the way up to $749, all these Mac minis were originally released in 2009, making them quite obsolete for those looking to fire up multiple graphically-intensive applications at once.

The purchase still makes sense, though.

At $429, a refurbished Mac mini packing a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of upgradeable memory, 120GB of storage and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics may still be able to run the upcoming Mac OS X Lion smoothly.

Similar systems packing more RAM, more storage, better graphics and higher clocked CPUs are priced in accordance with their specs.

One Mac mini in particular saves its lucky buyer a substantial $210 for 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 320GB hard drive, 4GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB memory.

If ‘mini’ is not your style, perhaps Apple can entice you to purchase newer, better looking, and more portable refurbs, like the MacBook Air 1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

Originally released in October 2010, the ultra-thin laptop boasts an 11.6-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 2GB memory, 64GB solid-state drive, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, and the Built-in iSight camera for $849 ($150 off).

The White MacBook with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics is priced identically. The notebook is considerably bulkier than the Air, but it boasts longer battery life and has a 13-inch display.
