Fluendo S.A., the popular software company that offers audio and video codecs for various Linux distributions, such as Mandriva, proudly announced yesterday evening (July 2nd) the immediate availability of a new solution to legally play DVD-Video discs. Being based on the GStreamer framework, this piece of software is ideal for Linux users whose DVD playback is restricted.

"For quite a long time, our clients have been waiting for a legal solution capable of integrating an application that profits from Fluendo audio and video codecs to reproduce DVDs [...] The market was missing this legal solution based upon the GStreamer framework. Fluendo DVD player provides end users with high quality standards, certified by Dolby Digital and DVD, including all patent licenses from MPEG LA and Dolby. We have worked hard to achieve our objective and we have succeeded: Fluendo DVD player is sold at the best price one could ever pay for this kind of product." - said Muriel Moscardini, Fluendo CSO, in the press release.

As Muriel Moscardini stated, the software was in a beta state for some time and various registered testers reported excellent feedback about the performance of the new Fluendo DVD Player. Even if we haven't had the chance to test it, it appears that the player can support all the modern DVD-Video features, such as:

· Full DVD playback · Support for DVD menus · Support for fullscreen DVD playback · Dolby Digital pass-through support · Dolby Digital 5.1 output · Support for stereo downmixing · Support for subtitles · Support for Multiple Angles · Support for CSS encrypted discs · Support for audio selection · Multiple video deinterlacing support · Region Free · Support for Ubuntu and Debian

While Fluendo will offer a special version of this DVD player application for OEM/ODM and corporate customers, the regular Linux user can buy it for no more than $27,99 or 19.99 Euros, via the Fluendo online store. One-year support is included in the price!
