The usually scrappy boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is making boxing history by letting his fans decide his next opponent in a fight that has already the date and location set.

The five-division world champion took to his Twitter account and told his millions of followers to make the decision for him. The choices were simple: either the British boxer Amir Khan or the Argentinian Marcos Maidana.

His tweet read, “I'm going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?” and then directed them on his personal website where the votes will be counted.

This move comes after Floyd signed a contract back in December for a May fight that would put him up against the British boxer Khan. Mayweather, who remains unbeaten as a world light-middleweight champion, also has his eyes on the Argentinian Maidana, with a record of 35-3, and who has already beaten Khan.

Meanwhile, Khan has a 28-3 record, has been eagerly waiting for a confrontation with Mayweather, who has a perfect record of 45-0, ever since last April when he narrowly won against Julio Diaz.

Although this is an unprecedented move, it's certainly not very surprising that it came from Mayweather, which is known in boxing circles by the nickname “Money.” This is due to his flamboyant lifestyle and his lavish spending.

It was this exact lavish spending that got Mayweather featured in the news just before the Super Bowl as reports had him placing a bet for several millions of dollars on the Broncos to win the cup.

After the game was played out, the boxer came out and slammed the rumors as false, although he did admit he has a habit of betting large sums of money on sporting events.
