14 DAY TRIAL // The latest craziest reason to get a citation in Florida is jogging backwards. Alex Mesa got a ticket for disturbing traffic in Miami Beach, reports say.
NBC Latino details that Mesa is HIV positive and has been since 1993. Since 2007, he has been running backwards in a bid to take better care of his body.
Mesa is recovering from alcohol and drug addictions which have left him suffering from cirrhosis.
"Every time I take one step jogging backwards I dedicate it to [God] because that is a miracle," he says.
His odd method of exercising has gained him attention from locals and tourists, and he has been featured on YouTube on a number of occasions.
However, he never had to explain himself to police officers until now. In the past, his drug problems have cost him troubles with the law and he now thinks that he is being targeted on account of his criminal record, which includes a drug charge.
