One of Philips's divisions, Polymer Vision, has presented the prototype of flexible display, whose dimensions reach 3.5 x 3.5 cm.

The miniaturized equipment foretells the appearance of a flexible display, which can be stored as a papyrus. Its dimensions will probably reach 10 or even 15 cm and it will surely be integrated in the WiFi compatible cell phones scheduled for 2010.

The PV-QML5 prototype has 5 inches and a small curvature; in the future, these radii will be much bigger. The important thing is that the first steps have been made, and the internal mechanism of the display allows a longer lifespan than it had been previously hoped and a contrast rate of a paper sheet.

The monochrome display can display 4 shades of gray with a resolution comparable to that of a PDA: 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA). The contrast ratio of the Active Display type display is 10:1, and its mass production date is 2007.
