At Adobe's annual user conference, Verizon Wireless, Adobe Systems and QUALCOMM announced the availability of Adobe Flash Lite technology via the Verizon Wireless network. Flash Lite for BREW allows Flash content to run on Verizon's Get It Now-enabled phones and enables over-the-air distribution of Flash applications.

"By combining Flash Lite with the BREW solution which enables our Get It Now service, developers have a new way to easily design and market rich, interactive content to our customers - which includes everything from screensavers and games to comics and animation," stated Ray Taylor, director of product development for Verizon Wireless.

Flash Lite for BREW is currently available on four Get It Now-enabled Verizon Wireless handsets, including LG VX9800, Motorola RAZR V3c, Motorola V3m and Samsung SCH-a950, with additional handsets to follow in the coming weeks. Verizon Wireless customers can purchase Flash Lite for BREW content and applications directly on their phones from Verizon Wireless' Get It Now virtual store.

"Both BREW and Adobe Flash are successful, industry-proven solutions and combining their capabilities into Flash Lite for BREW will be a boon to Flash developers who can take advantage of the BREW business model to monetize their mobile content," said Mitch Oliver, vice president of solutions and marketing for QUALCOMM Internet Services. "Verizon Wireless has long been at the forefront of offering the latest technologies that benefit its subscribers, and its decision to offer Flash Lite for BREW is a great addition."

Adobe also announced that a preview release of the Flash Lite 2.1 Update to Flash Professional 8 is available for free download on Adobe Labs http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flash_Lite_2.1_Authoring , enabling developers to create, preview and test Flash Lite content and applications directly in the Flash Professional 8 environment.
