14 DAY TRIAL // Redmond-based Microsoft will unleash on the market the latest flavor of its mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 6.5, in about three weeks from now, and handset markers around the world already announced plans to launch their own Windows phones that day. While the new OS iteration is expected to come to the market with a series of visual changes from the previous versions of the platform, some specific themes will also be available for users to enjoy.
Five of such themes have just been announced by the software giant on its Windows Mobile Blog, and they have been designed specifically for the upcoming handsets running under Windows Mobile 6.5. According to Microsoft, the themes include custom palettes and wallpapers, and are delivered by designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Isaac Mizrahi, Rock & Republic and Ron Arad.
“We feel these designer themes are great examples of how Windows phones are moving into the consumer space and our Windows phone offerings on October 6 will continue this expansion of the brand. Smartphones are just as much a fashion statement as the clothes you wear and are quickly becoming a must-have accessory. The designer themes are just one more way that Windows phones help folks customize their device to fit their style. No other mobile platform offers this level of self-expression,” the Windows Mobile Blog post states.
Mobile phone users that will enjoy a handset running under the new OS flavor from Microsoft will find the new themes available as a free download at the Windows Marketplace for Mobile, the software portal that the company will launch on October 6 along with Windows Mobile 6.5. Other customization options for the Windows phones will also come towards users, either in the form of themes, wallpapers or ringtones. At the same time, the Marketplace will provide access to an array of applications that will enhance the user experience on Windows phones even more.
