Two in the top ten

Another week passes and the United Kingdom videogames chart is still being topped by Wii Fit, the Balance Board using the fitness title from Nintendo, which has been selling well ever since it was launched and took the top spot in the second week of 2009. Britons are apparently very interested in getting their exercising without leaving home, as another title, called My Fitness Coach Wii, from Ubisoft, is at number 7 in the chart. Partly to blame for this fitness domination is the fact that January has not seen any big releases that could hope to take number 1 in sales.

Call of Duty: World at War sits comfortably at number two, performing even better than its predecessor, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which is set to get a sequel in 2009. Number 3 in the chart goes to Skate 2, the Activision game just launched for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Electronic Arts is having quite a good week as it has taken the fourth and fifth places, with FIFA 09 capitalizing on the impeding return of the Champions League and The Lord of the Rings: Conquest falling in the chart, probably because of the somewhat shoddy quality of the Tolkien inspired videogame. Wii Play continues to stay in the top ten, at number 6, while Mario Kart Wii is still racing well, sitting at number 8.

The big surprise is the rejuvenation of Tomb Raider: Underworld, which had exited the top ten. Now, it has jumped from 33 to 9 mainly because of the release of the PlayStation 2 version of the new Lara Croft adventure. Considering the large install base of the PS2, Tomb Raider might just improve its sales number by a large margin.

Titles like Prince of Persia, Mirror's Edge, Resistance 2 and Midnight Club: Los Angeles are now out of the top ten.
