A close call has been caught on camera on Lake Athens, when a fisherman found himself feet away from the bolt of a lightning strike.

According to Grind TV, Texas angler Tucker K. Owings was boating on Saturday when he almost got struck.

Owings is just 16 years old and he has taken the trip with a friend. He captured the incident with a GoPro camera.

“I am one of the youngest professionals in the fishing industry and just learned a very important lesson. [...] I am thankful God protected us,” he says.

He recalls feeling static electricity bumps when touching the rod. At that point, the bass fisherman realized that it was time to get back to shore. Instants after, lightning has stricken, giving him a scare he will never forget.
