A fresh batch of photos from Ridley Scott’s upcoming film, “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” emerged at the beginning of the month and, as expected, they preceded the first official trailer for the film. You will find that one embedded below.

Don’t expect a full-length 2+-minute preview like movie studios used to release in the days of yore. Today, we get a teaser first or, at best, a teaser trailer. This is what this is, so it’s just 1.37 minutes’ worth of footage meant to get us acquainted not so much with the characters but with the overall feel of the film.

Scott wasn’t lying when he promised it would be “epic.” Everything about the film, from this video, feels huge, albeit a bit too obviously GCI-ed for my taste.

If Bible-based movies are not exactly your cup of tea whatever the reason, perhaps the stellar cast of this one will be enough to draw you in: Christian Bale plays the prophet Moses, who fought against Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton) to free 600,000 slaves, whom he led across the desert and onto freedom from Egypt.

And these two brilliant actors are just the tip of the iceberg: “Exodus” also stars Sigourney Weaver, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Aaron Paul.

“What I thought I knew about Moses I didn’t really. Either I wasn’t paying attention in Sunday school or I had forgotten. I was knocked out by who he was and the basics of the story – it has to be one of the greatest adventures and spiritual experiences that could ever have been,” Scott told Entertainment Weekly about making this film. He also promised it would not be “mild,” but epic.

“Exodus” opens in theaters on December 12.
