Universal has released the first teaser poster for comic book adaptation / (potential) blockbuster of next summer, “Cowboys & Aliens.” Though it’s hard to tell because he’s not facing the camera, that’s Daniel Craig on it.

“Cowboys & Aliens” first got international media attention when Robert Downey Jr. was attached to it for the lead. Since then, though, he’s dropped out, presumably in order to clear his schedule to work on the “Sherlock Holmes” sequel.

Downey Jr. was eventually replaced by another huge name and audience magnet: Daniel Craig. And he’s not the only big star attached to the film, which is already getting a lot of fans excited.

The cast also includes Olivia Wilde, whom fans will see first in “Tron: Legacy” this December, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Noah Ringer, Adam Beach, Paul Dano, and Abigail Spencer.

However, since this is only a teaser poster that’s been released, it features the lead, Daniel Craig. Unfortunately, it’s his backside that gets the most attention, as Entertainment Weekly’s PopWatch also notes.

Not that the teaser poster is not any good – quite on the contrary, actually, it is packed full with elements meant to get superhero geeks excited about the new film.

However, one wishes Universal had done something about Craig’s wedgies situation in the first poster.

“The first poster from next year’s Cowboys & Aliens has been posted over at Yahoo, and the stark image shows Daniel Craig in full frontier regalia, with a rifle in one hand and a glowy alien thingamabob (wrist laser? Dick Tracy-style communicator?) on his opposite arm,” PopWatch writes.

“Also, maybe it’s just the chaps, but Craig’s cowboy pants seem to be… well, riding a little tall in the saddle, if you get my meaning?” the same report notes.

“Wedgies aside, the poster has a sumptuously sepia-toned look, and it’s getting me pretty stoked about the film,” PopWatch further writes. Many fans feel the same.

“Cowboys & Aliens” comes out in the Summer of 2011, as the poster also announces. It’s directed by Jon Favreau, so expectations for it are very high. For more details, make sure you keep an eye on this space.
