Director of “Man of Steel” sequel wasn’t joking when he said he had a huge surprise for us

The other day, Zack Snyder, the director of the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel, “Batman vs. Superman,” and the “Justice League” movie, posted to his Twitter a teaser photo of the Batmobile Ben Affleck’s Batman will be driving in the highly anticipated film.

He also promised he would be pulling the tarp off it the next day and, as the photo above can confirm, he’s kept his word. Boy, he did more than that because, with a better look at Batman’s ride, he’s also offering fans their first look at Affleck as the Caped Crusader.

“I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom,” Snyder says in the caption of the photo.

A few thoughts that come to mind at a first glance: Snyder is itching to show off his ideas but, at the same time, he’s still trying to keep the aura of mystery with these black and white shots. The Batmobile looks even more futuristic and dangerous I daresay than in Christopher Nolan’s movies.

Affleck might have bulked up for the role (we know for a fact that he did because he made sure to mention it in one of his interviews) but he can’t possibly be that huge. So the Batsuit is what makes him this ripped – but why the veins on it? Is Snyder going for a more “fleshy” feel to the Bat’s armor?

The cowl feels old-school, but somehow less angular than Christian Bale’s in Nolan’s trilogy. We can’t make out any weapons to discuss about them but, let’s be real here: Snyder didn’t post this pic because he wanted to give all the details away, he did it because he wanted to get fans going.

Perhaps he was also out to prove that Affleck could be just as convincing a Batman as Bale, the darkest rendition of the beloved superhero to date. After all, both Snyder and Warner Bros. did receive a lot of flak for casting Affleck as Batman, so they must have thought to themselves this is as good a time as ever to show the world that Affleck to can do the somber, brooding, dark, and dangerous type.

On the other hand, Affleck himself said that the Batman Snyder has in mind is different from the one created by Nolan, so it should be very interesting to see where this goes next.

“Batman vs. Superman” comes out in May 2016, so our guess is there will be plenty more teasers to dissect in the coming months. It also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Gal Gadot.
