Fans probably know Luc Besson for his work in action movies, but he can do dramas just as well. The just-released trailer for “The Lady” shows that that this is one director who is just as comfortable with – and great at – historical pieces.

Telling the story of pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi, the film is typically Besson, in that it puts accomplished actors against impressively large and distinctly memorable images.

A trailer offers a taste of that. It also hints that this is more than a historical movie: it’s also a beautiful love story.

“The story of Aung San Suu Kyi, the woman who is at the core of Burma’s democracy movement, and her husband, Michael Aris. Despite distance, long separations, and a dangerously hostile regime, their love endures until the very end,” reads the synopsis.

The film stars Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis, and will be out starting November in Europe.
