It's about as large as an external hard drive and stands upright

Intel's Next Unit of Computing mini PC, or NUC for short, has mostly used Core-series CPUs, but some Celeron and Pentium models exist as well. Now, though, the Atom line of chips is getting represented as well.

Intel has just released the first NUC featuring an Atom CPU, called Intel NUC Kit DE3815TYKHE. The name, or part of it, comes from the Atom E3815 processor.

Said chip is a single-core unit with 1.46 GHz clock, a max TDP of 5W, and 512 KB cache memory.

A 4 GB eMMC storage device is included, along with Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, a USB 3.0 on the front, support for one 2.5-inch SSD or HDD, up to 8 MB DDR3 RAM, a trusted platform module and every other basic part of a computer.

It's actually pretty impressive that they're all crammed in that little package, which happens to be just a little bigger than an external hard disk drive. VGA, serial and internal speaker ports exist, among other things.

Basically, even if you lack an HDD/SSD, you can use the new Atom-powered Intel NUC Kit DE3815TYKHE out of the box. Well, almost. You still need to buy the random access memory (one module of up to 8 GB).
