It's finally here: the first trailer for “The Hunger Games,” arguably one of the most anticipated releases of 2012, has finally arrived. In short, it doesn't disappoint.

Based on the best-selling novels by Suzanne Collins and directed by Gary Ross, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, the only person to volunteer to take part in the Hunger Games.

Since this is a fight to life and death, she must use everything in her power to win. Luckily, this also includes a mentorship with former winner Haymitch Abernathy.

As fans who have read the books will notice, the trailer only covers the first half of the movie, that is, until the Games begin.

It does so to set the tone for those who didn't read the novels but also because it “attempt(s) to preserve the anticipation and mystery that fans are relishing,” the movie studio says.

“The Hunger Games” is out in theaters on March 23, 2012 but, judging by the reaction to the trailer, it's going to be a very long wait for many fans.
