First Else is a new mobile phone that has just been officially unveiled at a London event this week, and which is set to come to the market as an option for the currently available handsets and mobile operating systems. The handset is powered by the Else Intuition OS, which is based on the Access Linux Platform v3.0. We've already said a few words on the phone, yet now we've stumbled upon a series of hands-on images with it, as well as on two videos from the London presentation.

The First Else mobile phone is expected to arrive on the market sometime in the second quarter of the next year and should prove as being something else than what we can already see on the market: “Android's a game-changer... [but] people need to consider that Android doesn't bring good user experience. Most [manufacturers] have failed. The Droid is improving, has a great infrastructure but they treat Android as just a component,” stated Eldad Eilam, CTO of Else when asked about other Linux-based platforms, reports Engadget.

The user interface of the new OS is a right-thumb-controlled one, which enables users to operate the device using a single hand. The responsiveness of the phone is said to be a good one, as the 'sPlay' menu interface is meant to deliver all the necessary information to users, though keeping them at a low level. However, the browsing through various items can be done very easily, through the swipe of the thumb.

We've already had a glance at the specifications list of the new mobile phone, and now a few new details emerged, such as the fact that its touchscreen display is 3.5-inches large, capacitive, capable of delivering a 854 x 480 pixel resolution, or that it includes a 1450mAh battery, as well as support for up to 32GB of storage. Additional info includes the fact that First Else will sport HSDPA and EDGE connectivity options, though there are no details on where it will be launched.

The one thing that is certain here is that First Else does seem something else. The OS is said to have been developed from scratch, but one should agree that it looks pretty appealing. Take a look at the video below to make an idea on the handset. At the same time, you might also want to head to the Else website for additional details, or to have a look at the photo gallery available on pocket-lint here.
