We've known for a while that Deus Ex 3 is in development at Eidos Montreal. We've also known little about the title until now, when PC Zone has managed to snatch a detailed report from the developers; it will publish it in issue 200.

The developers say that they are really trying to create a game that will be true to the first one in the series, while also breaking new ground as far as the blend between role playing games and action goes. It's said that the game will be a prequel set in 2027, quite a few years before 2052, when the original game is thought to take place.

The art will be more stylized than that of other games which use the Unreal 3 engine, with a look that takes on both renaissance motives and cyberpunk themes to create a world which is advanced and decadent at the same time, with a dark core that is surrounded by a layer of technology.

Eidos Montreal promise a “powerful, layered” plot and the original creator Warren Spector is said to be pleased with what the team is doing while writer Sheldon Pacotti provides advice regarding the story.

The player will step into the shoes of Adam Jensen, a guy who works as a private security officer at a technology lab where augmentations are created. One day, the lab is raided and he is thrust deep into a conspiracy that will involve control over the entire world, in true Deus Ex style.

It is said that the weapons will be fully customizable, with a lot of upgrades available and combat also influenced by the augmentations that the character takes on. A stealth system will also be implemented for those who prefer a silent kill. One potential controversial element is that an auto heal element will be implemented.
