Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia has recently released new software updates for two of its popular handsets, namely the Nokia E71 and the Nokia E66. The firmware on both devices has been brought up to version v500.21.009 via this update, which came forth with a great amount of new features, enhancements, improvements, fixes and more. The new software solutions are available for download via the Nokia Software Updater,

According to recent posts on symbianworld, the changelog for the new software updates is almost identical. The main differences between what has been delivered to the Nokia E71 and to the Nokia E66 emerge in the release notes for the first device, which include a fix for key mapping issues on the keyboard, and new features available for Nokia IM chat, including localization support provided for Malay and Indonesian languages. Additionally, Nokia E71 users should benefit from fixes with the Portuguese Localization, from improved E-mail configuration, and from other improvements brought to the QWERTY keypad on their devices.

The owners of one of the two devices should benefit from Maps 3.03 Lite (which has Free Navigation support) with the new software update, along with upgraded music player, Quick Office v6.2 with support for Office 2007, upgraded Ovi Store (version 1.6.0.18), and Lotus Notes traveler v8.5.1, with support for localization in 10 languages. Other changes include the removal of Windows Live from the memory card, Ovi Store Link provided in “Set Up Internet Telephony”, upgraded Start Up settings baseline, or the inclusion of Ovi Suite on the memory card.

The release notes also include: - Emergency call termination with RSK key corrected - Corrected Bluetooth link drop when an outgoing call is made in a carkit - Fix for Israel written instead of Jerusalem - Corrected Argentina names issue in World Clock - Corrected localization issues in world clock - CMCC Java application download corrected - Fix provided for accessing a link that has appended space characters - Fix provided for selecting desired mailbox when multiple mailboxes are configured

Users should consider performing a backup of all data on their devices before proceeding with the software update, as the two phones do not come with UDP (user data preservation) and all personal files might be lost during the upgrade. In case the new software solutions do not appear on NSU, users should not worry, as Nokia would release them at different times in different markets.
